Shown below are the energy sources that balanced the UK electricity grid over the last 2 weeks. Blue is Gas Power output, Orange is Solar, Green is Wind, Purple is Imported Energy (Mainly Nuclear from France) The brown line is Biomass (DRAX wood burning ). The tiny pink signal is pumped storage, and finally the baseline solid grey output is what’s left of our once proud Nuclear Power.
It is only in the last couple of days that Renewables have made a stronger impact on the grid. The press and renewable lobby always tend to focus just on the these rare events. Meanwhile our Energy Security will continue to remain dependent mainly on Gas, and on imports to keep the lights on. The only logical solution for a net zero grid is to focus future investment on expanding Nuclear Power.
