Our unexpected visit to Hong Kong is nearly over. Hong Kong is one of my favourite cities where somehow everything really works well. The metro is efficient and clean. The streets are washed daily, everyone is friendly and the shopping malls are amazing. The only danger is buying too much high tech stuff which you fool yourself into believing you must have. So far I bought a Nokia N8 – which is the best camera phone available, and had to fight myself from buying a MacBook Air – both of which are much cheaper than the UK.
Hong Kong is also one of the best places to be marooned in for food. Even the cheapest restaurants offer some amazing dishes.
We took a trip to Lamma and walked to the other side just to get an appetite to eat at a superb fish restaurant. Now even at breakfast I find myself eating noodles and soup ! On Monday though it is back to the UK for a diet and some weight loss down at the Gym 🙁
Last night we went to the first night of the Hong Kong rugby sevens and the atmosphere was great.
All the top nations play off for a place in the knock out finals on Sunday. Wales beat Hong Kong which was not a popular result for the majority of the crowd (except for Anna). I think it gets much more
livelier on Saturday and Sunday, but probably I wouldn’t be able to take the pace, as after each couple of games it is necessary to drink another beer. Apart from that we have been to a different place each day – Lantau, Mong Kok, Stanley, but usually we end up in some shopping mall. The day of reckoning comes next week when I face up to our credit card statements !
